Neil Fernandez

BA(Hons), CQSW, Non-Executive Director MHT
After leaving University with a BA Honours Degree in Social Sciences Neil worked for several years for Cambridgeshire County Council as a social worker. After nearly a decade Neil went on to set up his own business as an independent fostering agency. After a successful buy-out back in 2007 Neil then created a luxury furnished apartment business in Cambridge, his home city, where he utilises nearly 20 years experience building business relationships. In addition Neil has been involved with MHT for the last 3 years and earlier in 2010 became a Non-Executive Director bringing many interpersonal and communication skills to the company.
Neil links his passion for military history to his own personal family connections with warfare. Neil’s father CPRL (acting Sergeant) Leo “Eric” Fernandez RAF volunteered from Trinidad to serve as a rear Gunner and then mid –upper in Bomber Command in WWII, flying on, among others, Lancaster Bombers. It was his father’s involvement that first sparked his interest in Military History as a child, and he then quickly learned of his Grandfather, Private Arthur Douglas’ involvement in the Royal Anglian regiments role in the trench warfare of the First World War.
Neil believes that Military History books, old films and T.V series such as Colditz, as good as they are, only served to provide him with a real thirst for “unlocking “the truth. Neil says it was with great delight when he came across MHT when researching Colditz on the internet. He says to think that he could actually visit Colditz itself to REALLY unlock the truth was too good an opportunity to turn down. After also visiting Sagan and going on the Dambuster’s tour he soon realised that the informative yet relaxed style of the guides on these select tours, their immense knowledge and passion for the subject, for in-depth detail of the personalities involved continued to spur his own thirst for research.
The passion of MHT, its expertise and its compassion it has for those researching their relatives all combine to make MHT a vocation not a job and this is why Neil says he is proud to be a Director of this established company whose first goal is to keep the memories and lessons of History alive. A company who puts people first.
Neil lives in Cambridge with his wife and two children.
